William “Charlie” Latham

(Co-Managing Partner)

A 1977 graduate of Fletcher High School, Charlie was commissioned an officer in the United States Navy immediately following graduation from the University of Florida in 1981. His sea tours included:  OIC 3MMR, USS Saratoga (CV-60); Chief Engineer, USS Gemini (PHM-6); Chief Engineer, USS AW Radford (DD-983) and Commissioning Executive Officer, USS Gladiator (MCM-11). His only shore tour was at the University of Florida, where he served as Senior Class Instructor at the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Charlie left active duty in 1994 as a Command-qualified Lieutenant Commander in order to attend Graduate School at the University of Florida.

Charlie began his career in the solid waste industry in 1995 and has held the following positions:

  • Operations Manager, Browning Ferris Industries (BFI)
  • District Manager, BFI
  • Florida Division Manager, United Waste
  • Regional Market Development Manager, Superior Services/Onyx Waste
  • Co-Managing Partner, Coastal Disposal & Recycling Services, Brunswick, GA
  • Co-Managing Partner, Coastal Recycling Services, Jacksonville

Charlie has served on the Board of Governors of the National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA) and he currently serves on the NSWMA Legislative Steering Committee in Florida. Charlie is also an active member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and the United States Green Building Counsel (USGBC).

Charlie is married to the former Kathryn Snider of Jacksonville. They have two daughters, Katie (23, a graduate of the University of Florida now working in Denver, Colorado) and Kelly (20, a Sophmore at Santa Fe College). The family is active in the Presbyterian Church (Charlie is an Elder and Kathryn is a Deacon). Charlie’s Father, Bill Latham, was a former City Councilman and two-term Mayor of Jacksonville Beach. Bill is credited by many for ‘spearheading’ the development of Jacksonville Beach during the 1990s. Charlie’s mother Merlaine still resides in Jacksonville Beach and is an active volunteer at the Mayo Clinic.  Charlie was sworn in as the Mayor of Jacksonville Beach on November 19, 2012.
